Seven Years War
Winston Churchill referred to the Seven Years' War as the first true world war. It pitted Britain and its allies of Portugal and Prussia against France and its allies of Spain, Austria, Russia, and Sweden. Campaigns were fought in North America, the Caribbean, India, off the coast of Africa, and Europe.
In North America, the Seven Year's War was known as the French-Indian War, and it played a critical role in laying the foundations for the American War of Independence.
